Stable Ground Retreat
September 20-22, 2026
The Only Retreat Just for Those in Animal Care
01 / Find Your People, Find Your Herd
This whole retreat exists for one thing: to let you be among animals you love and the people who share your calling, without the crisis-to-crisis demands that usually come with it.
02 / A Whole Farm to Breathe In
Perry Lake, quiet woods and trails, open pasture, and a bonfire under the stars; the whole farm, all to ourselves. There is room to wander, rest, and connect to nature to let the land do what it does.
03 / Wellness Activities
Throughout the retreat, attendees will engage in (optional) wellness activities designed specifically for those in animal-related work. You spend your days tending everyone else. Here, the tending turns toward you. Full itinerary to follow.

How booking & sharing overnight lodging works*
Real rest begins with feeling safe in your own space, so at this retreat, no one is ever lodged with a stranger. Every overnight spot belongs to the person who books it and only the people they choose to bring. You will never be placed alongside someone you don't know. One person books the spot (the price includes the accommodations and your own meals and everything else for one person). Anyone bed-sharing it just adds the Whole Event Multi-Day Pass. If you want to bring a colleague, partner, or close friend (someone who is also in animal care) to share your space, they simply grab the day pass to cover their own cost of food and the farm activities — no extra lodging charge. Easy.
*Applies to the Under the Stars, Home on Wheels, Lovebug, and Sanctuary options.
Prefer your own bed nearby? Not a camper, or cabins are full? Grab any day or all-event pass and stay at a hotel or Airbnb close by. Be fully part of everything, with your own quiet at night.

Rain or shine, we will connect with each other , the horses, and the land! Our large event tent and the indoor Pony Up lounge (kitchenette, restrooms, and room to relax and socialize) mean gathering, meals, and community time carry on comfortably whatever the sky does. Some activities such as soaks and the fire may happen as weather allows.
-
Anyone who works or volunteers with animals, in any corner of the field — shelter and rescue, vet med, sanctuaries, wildlife and conservation, animal control, and everything between. Paid or volunteer, ten years in or ten months. You do not have to be "burned out enough" to deserve rest. If you care for animals, this is for you.
-
Yes! Many people do. The whole weekend is built for solo arrivals to land softly and find their people. Our range of lodging, from a tent under the stars to a private cabin, are designed so there’s an option that fits your budget and your comfort. You'll never be lodged with a stranger, and you won't be left standing alone at the edge of anything.

It’s completely normal to feel nervous doing something new or attending a retreat for the first time! Most people feel at ease very quickly and are grateful for the experience once they’ve gotten themselves there. And nothing is required but showing up. Every offering (the soaks, the horses, the group moments) is designed for you and you can opt-out of anything you don’t want to do.
-
Delicious and plant-based — with snacks and drinks throughout (if you have other dietary needs, just tell us when you register).
Not everyone who joins us is vegan, and that's genuinely welcome — there's no expectation about how you eat in the rest of your life, and no judgment here, ever. We simply keep our shared table plant-based: Come hungry; you'll be well fed.
-
As much as we adore them, no. The farm is a working animal property with its own residents, so guest pets aren't permitted. This one's a firm venue rule.
-
No. This is an alcohol-free gathering. It keeps the space restful, safe, and clear for everyone, and lets the sauna, soaks, and fire be the good kind of unwinding.
-
No. It's rest, restoration, and community. It’s a time to be held with care by a facilitator who knows this work intimately, but it isn't clinical treatment or a substitute for therapy.
-
This is a space for people in animal-related work, and you're welcome to bring a partner, friend, or family member who's also in the field to share your lodging.
-
After you register, you'll receive a Welcome Packet with a full packing list — but think comfortable layers, a swimsuit for the soaks, and whatever helps you rest.

Stillwater Stables in Ortonville, Michigan. The weekend opens Sunday, September 20 at 3 PM and wraps Tuesday, September 22 by noon; your exact start time depends on the pass you choose. Directions come with your Welcome Packet.

The cancellation policy is discussed in the waiver that you sign at the time of purchase. The short version: transfers of a registration to another person are always welcome, but refunds are not available once purchased since our costs are committed early.
